Hey guys,
Got a question regarding recovery points on the GV.
For the rear I'll just be using a billet hitch in my hitch receiver but the front I'm not sure of.
The point on the front left hand side is definitely a tie down point so i won't go near it.
However is the loop on the front right hand side an actual recovery point or just a tie down or level ground tow point as it doesn't look overly strong ?

I think it's meant for level ground towing, as your said, but it's probably your best bet.

Yeah thought as much, might have a look at getting some rated recovery points installed. That or a bull bar with them on would be nice.

Look at your owners manual, in mine it is under section Other Controls and Equipment. They call them Frame Hooks.
You have one at the rear right side and another one at the front right side behind a plastic cover.
From the manual:
Frame hooks are provided at the front and rear of the vehicle. To access the front hook, unhook the lower part of the cover (1) and then remove the cover (1).
WARNING Do not use the frame hooks to tow another vehicle or to have your vehicle towed on the road or highway. The hooks are designed for use in emergency situations only, such as if your vehicle or another vehicle gets stuck in deep mud or snow.

Well I'm back from Fraser Island didn't choose the sunniest period to head over :(
Still had a ball regardless. Of the three days i was there only one was real wet the other two were on off rain.
Had a few issues and I won't be going back again till i get the GV lifted, bottoming out far too often in the ruts of bigger vehicles. The places were clearance wasn't an issue the car was great.
I ripped off all the engine gaurds on one rutted sand hill which happend to be in front of a load of backpackers on a tour bus very embarrassing.
The buses have really dug up the track at the moment in areas so a lift is a must.
Also had the service esp light come on for a bit then go out when i turned the car off and it never came back on whats the deal with that ?
Anyway i will post pics later. Didn't get too many as the misses was in our car taking them.

You need to get decent under body protection from Tim (outdoor Autos). They also have lift kits. I'm contemplating the 3 inch lift kits. http://www.outdoorauto4x4.com/c/190579/1/-underbody-protection.html

Yep, get a skid plate fitted. It lets you plow through the sand/mud or at least slide over the high points between the ruts (with a bit of momentum from the get go). To recover from the front, the next thing I'm going to buy for my GV is a bridle like this. http://www.4x4equip.com.au/showProduct/4x4+Accessories/Recovery+Gear/IDH-23-1/Recovery+Bridleit allows you to spread the load between the two front tow/tie down points.

the GV has only one tow point at the front.
the other point is for securing the car when is transported by sea, not for towing.

Hey, nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. What did you set the tire pressure at? I noticed that setting at 20psi reduced the amount of interference from the TC system.

Hey mate,
I had the tyre pressure set to 24psi sand was pretty wet so traction wasn't an issue. Plus clearance was a real concern for me having ripped the crap gaurds off underneath that i didn't want to drop it any lower (lowering the car in the process).
There was heaps of tree roots that had been unearthed due to the rain on the inland tracks too.

Thanks mate. I'm heading to DI next Sunday for a day trip. I hope the cyclone up north does not cause too much erosion.

Great photos of the GV used off-road. Even the blue Jimny rocks!
Cheers,

Ryhno,
Sorry for the use of acronym. It's Double Island/Rainbow Beach. If you've nothing planned for this weekend, you're more than welcome to tag along. I'm meeting a mate at Beachfront caravan park Noosa North Shore at approximately 10.30am.
